Overview
Mask Layers enable you to mask out specific sections of your terrain by painting directly in World Creator or importing a bitmap from an external source. Mask Layers are compatible with the distribution system and can thus be referenced by filters and materials. For masking entire biomes, please refer to biome layers.
Using a Mask Mayer
To add a new Mask Layer to your World Creator scene: The mask itself possesses several properties. You may access the typical area parameters, mask visibility options, as well as the import/export functionality to use images for the mask.
Most of the time, creating the mask directly inside World Creator is preferable. Doing this allows you to witness your strokes being updated in real-time on your terrain.
Click on the Edit button to access the painting submenu. Here, you can modify your paint mode, execute actions on your mask, or change the brush.

We can now apply the mask to our terrain after creating it. To clearly visualize the contrast between the masked and unmasked areas, we have selected a strong filter that significantly modifies a significant part of the terrain.
To apply the mask, you simply need to create a mask distribution under the filter and select the mask in its mask selection property. If you only want an overlay effect, you can control the strength of the mask distribution by changing the blend value property.

In addition to applying a mask to a filter, World Creator enables you to apply a mask to a material. The process for this is similar to that of filters. You only need to add a mask distribution below your material and reference the mask.
You may use a mask on any number of filters or materials, enabling you to apply the same mask to a combination of filters and materials.
